I sometimes watch a programme called Cold Case. It is a US programme about detectives investigating old cases where new evidence or doubts have arisen. The musical theme of the programme is always songs from the year of the crime they are investigating . This week THIS was the leading song.

Aren't the turtles racing this year Surferboy? Here's an odd Turtle fact for you:-

One type of turtle possesses an extraordinary organ that allows it to breathe underwater and stay submerged for many months.

The common musk turtle has a tiny tongue lined with specialised buds, scientists have discovered.

Rather than use this tongue for eating, the turtles use it to exchange oxygen, solving a mystery of how these reptiles can remain submerged for so long.

Celebrate World Turtle Day.

Turtles are one of the most endearing and symbolic of America's native wildlife. Turtles not only fascinate each passing generation of children, who find endless wonders under those hard shells, but they also continue to serve as a timeless role model in children's literature: the slow and steady turtle, whose patient progress always wins out against his fast but feckless competitor.

Yet the turtles' lofty status hasn't prevented humans from abusing the creature. In fact, all land, freshwater, and sea turtles are facing imminent threats to their survival, simply because of human activities. Turtles are the reptile most affected by the pet trade, not to mention the food and traditional medicine industries. Many turtle species also suffer from the effects of pollution as well as from the destructive effects of industrial fishing operations.

Despite these hardships, May is a busy month for turtles. Many have recently emerged from winter hibernation and are beginning their search for mates and nesting areas. For this reason, May 23 was designated World Turtle Day.

The purpose of World Turtle Day, May 23, sponsored yearly since 2000 by American Tortoise Rescue, is to bring attention to, and increase knowledge of and respect for, turtles and tortoises, and encourage human action to help them survive and thrive.

Great Sleep Song | Reviewer: Ken | 1/11/2008

When my daughter was small she had trouble getting to sleep so I would hold her in my arms and sing this song to her about 6 times. By the middle of the sixth, she would be out. I love this song because it is so "Brian Wilson' - great vocal - lazy song - puts you right in the mood. At this stage there was still hope that Brian could put it all together and start producing the Beach Boys again. I've always felt that he should have released "Smile" back in 1967 as a solo album - it may have saved him from years of problems and gotten the rest of the band in line.

Wow, what a good picture of Baldesphere, the outermost planet of cranium. It's been proved that it exists close to a black hole, but still mages to evolve. It was only dicovered just over 60 years ago, but has given us a lot of information through the ether(net) over the last few years. It has even been said to have been a keystone of the creation of the recently discorvered HoS system! The world community is waiting with abated breath for new discoveries that it may give us in the future.

I heard this on the radio yesterday. I've never heard of the singer but she seems to have a great distinctive voice. This is only a short clip from her latest so if anyone can find the full version please put a link to it on here.

Here she is folks NELL BRYDEN

On a very different note, do you remember Marian Ryan yes that's her in the picture. She didn't have a great voice but seemed to find favour with tv audiences. Here's "CRY ME A RIVER"

Then there were her sons Paul and Barry, THIS is a pretty poor quality clip but even in high definition they would be pretty bad Though Barry did go on to do ELOISE which is pretty good.

Hi Surferboy,

Your `post` of  9th March took me back to the mid 60s ,when Kathleen and I went along to the Odeon Cinema to see THE WALKER BROS IN CONCERT.

Enjoyed the first half performance which featured Engelberg Humperdick and also Jimmy Hendrix.

Near the end of the interval the `compere`thought he would build up the audience for the main act and asked  each of the Bros to tap the drawn curtains to show they were waiting to perform.

Amid the screams and turmoil ----I  just had to walk away-----

George P.

HEAVEN ON BBC FOUR TONIGHT>>>>A BEACH BOYS NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, 21:00 on BBC Four

Synopsis

Dennis Wilson was the drummer in the Beach Boys. And he was the real Beach Boy. In a band of geeks who sang about surfing, cars and girls, Dennis was the only one who surfed, the one who drove hot rod cars in competition and the one who got all the girls.

He was married five times, shared a house with Charles Manson (with whom he wrote songs, including one recorded by the Beach Boys) but died, ironically by drowning, at the age of 39. He was also the first Beach Boy to release a solo album, the stunning Pacific Ocean Blue, which after years of being out of print and fetching hundreds on Ebay, was re-released in 2009 to widespread acclaim, being voted No 1 Reissue of the Year by Mojo and Uncut magazines.

This documentary tells the story of Dennis's life and music, with unseen archive footage and original interviews with Beach Boys Al Jardine and David Marks, his sons Michael and Carl and many friends and fellow musicians. These include Taylor Hawkins, drummer with the Foo Fighters who provided a vocal for the lost track on Pacific Ocean Blue, Holy Man, for which Dennis never laid down a vocal when he recorded the song in 1977.

Plus a Pet Sounds concert;

21:00–22:00

Legends
Dennis Wilson: The Real Beach Boy

Profile of Dennis Wilson, the drummer in the Beach Boys, who drowned aged just 39.

22:00–23:00 Pet Sounds: Brian Wilson Live in London The Beach Boys' classic

And a rather macabre report from last year. I don't know if it sold or not!

The son of iconic '50s rock n' roller The Big Bopper has said he plans to sell his late father's casket - which he was buried in for 48 years - on eBay in the next few weeks.

The Big Bopper, real name JP Richardson, died along with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens in a plane crash in 1959. The accident has since become known as "the day the music died" after Don McLean recalled the incident in his massive-selling 1972 US Number One 'American Pie'.

The 16-gauge steel casket was exhumed from its original resting place in 2007, because Richardson's son wanted to move his father to a more visible location, reports The Beaumont Enterprise.

"I have no personal use for the casket," Richardson said. "When you get down to it, it is just a metal box. More important is what this particular metal box represents.

"In another 200 years, will people care about rock 'n' roll?" he continued. "Who knows? But why would I want to destroy it? Even though it was dad's resting place for 48 years, it's also a unique opportunity to learn more about the early years of rock 'n' roll."

Richardson, who was born three months after his father's death, said he saw his body for the first time in person after it was exhumed. Buried in a black suit with a blue-and-grey striped tie and socks, the Big Bopper's thick, brown hair was reportedly still in perfect condition. He has since been reburied in a new casket.

Richardson says he plans to use the money raised from the eBay auction to fund a musical show about his father.

Hi surferboy. Thank you. I am having a great time to-night. I started off with Indian Love Call, then I went on to Rose Marie, and now I'm listening to I remember you. I tried to get Cool Water but then the link disappeared and then I tried to get the Red River Valley but something has happened to that to but I shall persist. I have learnt now how to have my music and my Hearts at the same time, I just drop it down below- brilliant. I was sad about Red River Valley because I'd forgotten about it but that brought back memories of my schooldays and when it rained we had to sit in classroom and natter but we didn't we used to harmonise together - and we were good- and our favourite was Red river valley closely followed by In Apple Blossom time. Thanks for the memory. I have to find out how you get Red River Valley because, after much persuasion from Willow, better known at school as 'Little Lulu', two of the girls from that old gang have got themselves computers and I want to send them the link. (We must have a reunion)I have really enjoyed that to-night as I have been pretty glum having to stay in and not getting my fix of my music. Keep up the good work. You do well.

From BBC NEWS PAGE;

Remember the cassette? Mix tapes and mangled favourites in the car stereo? It's back. As an art object.

In 1989 Britain was a nation in love with the pre-recorded cassette. We bought 83 million that year. It was the peak of the little plastic music box's popularity.

Twenty years on, you would be forgiven for imagining the format was all but dead. The British Phonographic Institute says just 8,443 were sold in 2009.

But that number hides a new trend. In a digital age artists are turning to the cassette as an intriguing and challenging format - a ready-made frame for sound art.

In London, a tiny label called The Tapeworm has been quietly producing cassette-only releases since last summer, each one limited to 250 copies. Most have sold out.

"We do not view this as a dead format," says The Tapeworm's Philip Marshall. "We do not view this as something which does not have a place right now.

It's actually the beginning of a resurgence of older technology in the same way they got rid of vinyl records and now they're are selling more again."

Which is good news for me as I've got hundreds of them. You do see rare ones selling in Record Collector magazine for hundreds of pounds.

Anyway here's todays record....>CLICK HERE to liven you up! complete with hurdy gurdy

Thousands gathered to pay respects to the relics of one of the great saints at Salford Cathedral which arrived in Lancashire on a British tour.

One by one, the faithful were given a glimpse of the ornate casket of St Therese of Lisieux. St Therese, a Carmelite nun, is one of the most revered saints who taught that Christians should carry out small acts of kindness with great love.
So in respect I thought we would have a bit of classical today. My taste as no bounds.

Guns N' Roses star Slash has paid tribute to guitar pioneer Les Paul, who has died aged 94 last week, calling him "vibrant and full of positive energy".

Paul died from complications of pneumonia in New York, according to Gibson, the firm that sold his guitars.

Paul is credited with developing one of the first solid-body electric guitars, which went on sale in 1952 and contributed to the birth of rock.

He also developed other influential recording innovations such as multi-track recording, overdubbing and the eight-track tape recorder.

Paul was also a successful performer in his own right, notching up 11 number one singles and 36 gold discs with his wife Mary Ford.

He was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1978 and the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

A real legend here seen advertising "Listerine" with Mary.

Campbell was in great demand as a session musician in the 1960s. He was part of the famous studio musicians clique known as "The Wrecking Crew," many of whom went from session to session together as the same group. In addition to Campbell, Hal Blaine on drums, Leon Russell on piano, Carol Kaye on bass guitar, and Al Casey on guitar were part of this elite group of session musicians that defined many pop and rock recordings of the era. They were also heard on Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" recordings in the early 1960s.

He was a touring member of The Beach Boys, filling in for Brian Wilson in 1964 and 1965. He played guitar on the group's Pet Sounds album, among other recordings. On tour, he played bass guitar and sang falsetto harmonies.

In 1962, Campbell signed with Capitol Records and released two instrumental albums and a number of vocal albums during his first five years with the label. He released a  single written and produced by Brian Wilson ("Guess I'm Dumb" in 1965).

Luverly girl, but whenever i see her 'Dressed up' she looks like she is wishing she'd put on a jeans and tee shirt. She seems awkward with her success, and would rather be climbing a tree or something back in one of her Welsh Valleys.

No disrespect though, i like her rather naive talent. Very becoming. Many great things yet to happen for her.

Here's one called Syrup and Honey in the recording studio like 'A fly on the wall', well worth a listen, and her body language and facial expressions show the 'work and effort' she puts in to get the right sound. MOBY - A composer / singer that i play in my car when i'm feeling 'down' and fed up. You don't get the full impression of the sound and base on here but in my car at a rather high (very high) volume it sort of 'rattles the bones, and wakes me up!

Back to my soul week. Remember >this one? I seem to like this period of recording more as I get older and appreciate how great theses songs were.

Beach Boy Dennis Wilson drowned 25 years ago today swimming near his boat in Marina del Ray CA. Here's a little tune he wrote for his wife Barbara. Such was his esteem in the American phsychy and his known love of the ocean that the Reagan administration allowed his body to buried at sea which as a strict rule is only allowed for military personel.
