LARGE unsliced wholemeal loaves at Morrisons only 50p. Now that is a bargain and their own baked bread is greatly improved just lately. Get the jam out!

Always look at the meat content when buying your sausages. Cheap ones can be around 40% but after all the fats come out they are half the size so not really a bargain and taste mushy. Around 85% is best and some are even higher but I tend to find they are a bit dry because you need a little fat content for succulence.

You could be right about the offal Sparky. (good pun)

Is anybody planning any decorating. Wilkinsons have Dulux colour emulsions at £10 per 2.2 litres which is a pretty good buy!

I think the ingredients of a sausage are more offal than the outside!

Meldrew I really could have done without all that detail about the constituents of sausage skins. I think you've condemmed me too a life of skinless sausages Uggh!

Yes I miss my old fashioned sausages bursting so they get crispy and burnt around the edges.

Artificial sausage skins are generally made from collagen obtained by processing the hide of animals and extruding it to form the thin skin we are familiar with. Natural skins are the intestine of the animal and are much more brittle than artificial skins with a tendency to split or burst.

I have been wondering whether promoting sausages and cream scones would be better done in the healthy diet section of HoS, but then if we hadn't indulged ourselves in those things we probably wouldn't be members.

If sausages don't have natural skins what are they made of? Is it some sort of rubber/plastic?

Morrisons have got those fresh cream scones againat 50p for two. go on treat yourself have a couple, infact have 4 it's only a pound.

They are not really a bargain but if you want the best sausage butty in the world try these.

In Morrisons Black Farmers Daughter thin link pork sausages. Really tasty, very liitle fat, natural skins. They are reduced from £2/39 to £2 for about 10 sausages. Yummy!

39p offers in Aldi....6 tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, avocado, spring onions.

Tesco Britain's biggest supermarket is being accused of encouraging binge drinking by selling bottles of wine for just £1.11.

Yet its stores are selling a Bulgarian Chardonnay under the Silver Rock label for as little as £1.11 for a regular 75cl bottle.

Tesco defended the decision on the basis that the wine, which normally sells for £2.99, has been delisted from some stores and has been reduced to a rock bottom price to shift it.

As recently as May, Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy went public with the group’s backing for efforts by the Government to ban giveaway price.
The Silver Rock, which is 13 per cent proof, was found on sale for £1.11 at Tesco in Linlithgow, West Lothian, this week.

Tesco confirmed it had been available across the country where managers have been authorised to cut the price to £1.50 or less.

Put me a couple of bottles aside. I'd be amazed if you went in today you'd find any!

ECCLES CAKES. As part of a drive to get people using Eccles Precinct there is going to be a range of things going on in July including an attempt to construct the world's biggest Eccles Cake tower in the precinct on July 10th along with some wine tasting.

BELLY DANCING. On Saturday 24th July there will be an attempt to to break the world record for belly dancing which currently stands at 534 bellis. should be quite a spectacular, any volunteers.

There are lots of other things going on. If you get the free magazine Life In Salford through you door go to page 15.

You mean Wards Bakery Surfer. It's been there for donkeys years and used to have a good reputation specially for their home made pies. I don't know if they still do their own baking but I'll have a look.

Have you tried the bakers across from the library in Eccles near the auction room and barbers. I believe they have a good reputation all round but sell out early.

Surfer, I've had another look at the Asda sim card and I can't find anything about a minimum usage. It does show a table on their website, a link in my post here on 19th April, that illustrates what you get for £5 £10 etc per month compared to other providers. There are definitely no monthly contracts to agree to.

No it seems not surfer. I got a sim card pack in the post today but haven't had time to check it out yet but I will and let you know tomorrow. I think there are extras if you top up a certain amount but I will let you know.

Do you use a "pay as you go" mobile phone? have you checked your network charges recently. Asda Mobile are doing a sim only tariiff at:-

  • 8p per minute for phone calls to all networks.

  • 4p per minute fpr texts to all networks.

  • 0800 phone calls 8p per minute. Other 08 numbers vary.

Now that has got to be a good deal. Check it all out by clicking ASDA MOBILE

Nice one Sparky.

I used to do the same as you Surfer, putting things in my shirt pockets mainly bits of paper at work with notes on them and the occasional 10 bob or £1 note and on more than one occasion they have ended up in the wash. I did it a few momths ago with some cash but luckily noticed while it was still wet and managed to seperate the notes and dry them and finally iron them. If I hadn't noticed until the shirt had dried I don't think I would ever have been able to seperate them. The shirt pocket is handy though especially in summer when we don't have as many pockets or when wearing jeans when you don't have a secure hip pocket.

Thinking about it now it is what we used to bo before we han a fridge and it seemed to do the job but was the stuff fresher when we used to get it then from a local shop onstead of multinational stores with enormous warehouses and storage facilities with artificial environments?

Did you know that you can keep broccoli fresh longer if you 'store' it rather like you would display a bunch of flowers. Place the broccoli stem in a glass filled with water. Much fresher than in the fridge, or cool corner.
